According to Van Leeuwen (2005), semiotic resources or modes are the actions, materials and artefacts that are used to create and communicate meaning. These can range from visual, aural and tactile resources (e.g. color, text, and sound, among others) and may adopt a variety of non-traditional reading paths. Each one of these resources individually communicate a message, but can also interact and come together into a multimodal ensemble; combining to form meaning. Los distintos factores que influyen en la configuración de género contribuyen a una transformación o una perpetuación de condiciones que fomentan o rechazan manifestaciones de violencia de género. Se reconoce a la construcción de género, no como el único factor que propicie la violencia y/o desigualdades, sino como un elemento primordial a revisar y abordar desde la educación. Por lo tanto, se hace una revisión, primero, de planteamientos importantes para la conformación del concepto de género y su tan estrecha relación con la violencia, para después aproximarse a los momentos trascendentales en los cuales las instituciones educativas de nivel superior han abordado el fenómeno.
