dc.description.abstract | "This study attempts to explore the use of collocations in 50 texts written by EFL students with an A2 level (CEFR) majoring in English Language Teaching at the Language Faculty, BUAP. The purpose of this study was to determine what types of collocations were most frequently used by these students and to identify any problematic areas in the use of collocations. The main theoretical framework and categorization of collocations was based on Lewis (1993, 2000) and Sinclair (1991). The methodology followed in this investigation has both a qualitative and a quantitative side (Creswell, 2010), following a text analysis approach. In order to fulfil the objectives of this study, the following research questions were posed: • How are collocations used by 3rd level students of English as a foreign language in descriptive texts? • What are the most frequently used collocation in such texts? • What are the most problematic areas that are present in such texts? The preliminary results seem to indicate that the most frequently used type of collocations used was that of „fixed expressions‟. Examples illustrating the results of this study will be provided. This study intends to shed some light in the use of collocations in English as foreign language writing." | es_MX |
