Abstract
"Chalcones and triarylpyridines represent two important classes of organic compounds with widespread applications in medicinal chemistry, materials science, and optoelectronics. Chalcones, chemically known as 1,3-diaryl-2-propen-1-ones, are typically synthesized via the Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction between aromatic aldehydes and ketones under basic or acidic conditions. This method offers simplicity, mild reaction conditions, and high yields, making it a widely adopted approach for generating diverse chalcone derivatives. These compounds serve as key intermediates in the synthesis of flavonoids and other heterocyclic compounds. Chalcones have been used in several applications such as, therapeutic agents, intermediates in organic synthesis, non-linear optical properties, organic electronics, sensing, bioimaging, among others. Due to their structural distinctive characteristics, they demonstrate remarkable pharmacological properties, including antibacterial, anticancer, antimalarial, and antidiabetic activities. An azo-chalcone derivative was developed as a DNA probe; it showed strong binding to DNA and produced measurable spectral shifts, proving its potential in molecular diagnostics".
