Abstract
"This thesis reports a descriptive study of the training that students receive in their teacher training program. This study was carried out at a public university in a faculty of modern languages which has an English language teaching program. The main purpose of this research was to investigate and understand the use of strategies and theories in the classroom by experienced teachers. Throughout our training program we noticed what we thought was a discrepancy in the way the teachers taught their classes and the way they taught us to teach classes. We wanted to know if we were the only students who noticed this and also we wanted to know what the teachers thought about actual classroom teaching. The research data were collected via questionnaires, observations and interviews that were applied to students who belonged to different levels: beginners, who were students from English target language I to III; intermediate, students from English target language IV to VI; and advanced, students from English target language VI to VIII. Also three teachers who taught English as target language were interviewed."
