dc.description.abstract"Bilingualism can be broadly defined as the ability that some individuals have –to different degrees- to speak two or more languages. In other words, “bilinguals are those who use two or more languages in their everyday lives”. As can be seen, both definitions include circumstances in which there may be a dominant language, and bilingualism also applies to situations where a person speaks more than two languages. There are different kinds of bilingualism, but one that is of particular interest for this research is bilingual acquisition, defined as the process whereby a three-year-old child has acquired full proficiency in at least two languages at about the same time. This phenomenon is also known as native bilingualism, early bilingualism or bilingual first language acquisition. In this case, the child develops more than one linguistic system, typically from birth or within the first three years of life. The objective of this research is to provide insights into the metalinguistic awareness and the construction of identity in a trilingual child. By means of a series of thematic narratives developed from thematic semi-structured interviews, a case study was conducted on an 11-year-old girl who acquired English, French and Spanish from birth in the monolingual context of Puebla City".
