dc.description.abstract | "Mexico ranks within the ten countries with most languages spoken in the world (Ethnolongue, 2019). It possesses a repertoire of sixty-eight languages. One language can have different variants that diverge from its structure, intonation or sounds, word formation, grammar, lexicon and sociolinguistic identity (which is represented by sociocultural structures, social spaces and behavior based on the identity). That differs from the users of one variant to another (INALI, 2008). For example, Nahuatl spoken in North Puebla is not the same as Nahuatl spoken in Veracruz. Considering this, in Mexico there are three hundred sixty-four linguistic variants (INALI, 2008). The current situation of every language and its variations is different. The purpose of this research is to explore teachers’ and students’ perceptions towards Mazateco in a bilingual school of San Mateo Yoloxochitlán in order to have a panorama of its use, students’ language proficiency and the attitudes they have towards both languages. This study aims to find the status of Mazateco as an indigenous language in this community in comparison with the status of Spanish based on a sample in a bilingual school." | es_MX |
