dc.description.abstract | "The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of politeness in the requests and to examine the multimodal devices that are most commonly used in a closed Facebook group by the university students of the “Facultad de Lenguas”. This closed Facebook group is employed by students and few faculty members of the Facultad de Lenguas, BUAP. They do not specifically need a level of English given that all the requests made in the group are from native speakers of Spanish. All the selected requests are taken from the group at random and age and gender of students are not a factor. The data is analyzed based on the taxonomy proposed by Blum-Kulka, House, and Kasper, Trosborg and Felix-Brasdefer. The findings suggest that the members of the group prefer to use conventionally indirect strategies and it is also noted that internal and external modifications are used in all the requests and for each publication several are used more than once. With respect to the use of multimodal devices, emojis are preferred over the others but are not included in all the requests. The social factors that governs these choices will be discussed in the presentation". | |
