The residue of the orange peel is a common contaminant in Mexico, even though it can be used in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food areas. We extract orange oil from residual skin, and determine its chemical compounds and antimicrobial activity. We used Soxhlet distillation, liquid-liquid extraction and pressing extraction, and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). We used a modified Kirby & Bauer technique on Acremonium sp., Alternaria sp., Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Trichoderma sp. and Verticillium sp. The Soxhlet method was the most efficient (2,065%). We observed inhibition values of 75% to 100% for S. aureus and P. auroginosa; 75 to 100% for Candida albicans; and 50 to 74% for Pseudomonas auroginosa. It acted as fungistatic for all strains. The CG-MS profile was: D-limonene 85,93%, β-myrcene 2,23%, linalool 1,72%, decanal 0,63%, α-pinene 0,43% and sabinene 0,20% per μL of oil per Head-space and per direct injection (main components: alkanes, and perilic alcohol, D-limonene and linalool)".Artículo Assessment of biological and persistent organic compounds in Hospital Wastewater After Advanced Oxidation Process UV/H2O2/O3(2020-02) Castañeda Antonio, María Dolores; Mejía Morales, Claudia; Hernández, Fernando; Cortés Hernández, Diego M.; Rivera, Antonio; Bonilla, Noemí; Castañeda Antonio, María Dolores; 0000-0003-0350-3802; Mejía Morales, Claudia; 0000-0003-2640-5703"This work studies the reduction of biological and organic compounds in hospital wastewaters (HWW) by advanced oxidation process (AOP). The HWW samples were previously treated with an extended aeration process and, thereafter, a post-treatment with AOP based on UV/H2O2/O3 system with a medium pressure mercury lamp was applied. After using the AOP system, the water samples were characterized using chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity, color test, coliforms and E. coli test, gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and UV-Visible absorption spectra. The results showed that 73% of organic compounds were removed in 20 min and the HWW sample was sterilized; nevertheless, 10 persistent organic compounds and 8 by-products formed after AOP UV/H2O2/O3 were observed, some of them are toxic compounds. In this sense, current HWW treatment plants cannot eliminate all contaminants in HWW; therefore, it is necessary to improve current processes by techniques as AOP and create standards to control biological and organic compounds in HWW in Mexico".Artículo Bioactive constituents in ethanolic extract leaves and fruit juice of Morinda citrifolia(2012-03) Castañeda Antonio, María Dolores; Cedillo Ramírez, María Lilia; Rivera, Antonio; Hernández, Fernando; Castillo, V.; Sánchez, A.; Castañeda Antonio, María Dolores; 0000-0003-0350-3802"Plants and fruits are considered as one of the main sources of biologically active compounds, and several studies reported that medicinal plants are used by 80% of the people living in rural areas as primary healthcare system. Morinda citrifolia has been heavily promoted for a wide range of uses, including antibacterial, antiinflamatory, analgesic, antioxidant, and antitumor effects. The objective was to identify chemical constituents in leaves extract and fruit juice of Morinda citrifolia by GC-MS analysis. The bioactive constituents in ethanolic extract leave and fruit juice of Morinda citrifolia were investigated using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry GC-MS analysis. Bioactive constituents studies of ethanolic extract leaves and fruit juice of M. citrifolia by GC-MS analysis clearly showed the presence of eighteen and fifteen compounds, respectively. Monitorear el MP en esta área permite proponer medidas de atenuación por afectaciones a la salud y ambientales".Artículo Photochemical treatment of residual water, determination of genotoxic effect and bacterial inactivation load(2016-02) Castañeda Antonio, María Dolores; García, Sandra; Hernández, Fernando; Rivera, Antonio; Cedillo, Lilia; Chávez, Sayra; Castañeda Antonio, María Dolores; 0000-0003-0350-3802"A photochemical UV/H2O2/O3 (PCT) system was used for the depuration of pretreated wastewater with advanced primary treatment (APT); genotoxic effect was determined over the water aliquots before and after the application of the photochemical system. As a toxicity indicator, garlic bulbs (Allium sativum), were used; the inhibition average of the roots and the chromosomal aberration frequency over the radical meristem cells were determinate, some morpho-anatomical alterations were registered".
