Abstract
"This descriptive study aims to explore the strategies used by some EFL teachers of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla to overcome the difficulties of the one-to-one model of education. The participants for this study are 5 pre-service and 5 in-service teachers from a public higher education institution in Puebla. Through questionnaires and interviews, this study aims to develop a fuller understanding of the challenges that teachers face in the one-to-one context. The findings suggest that there are three main challenges in the-one-to one context: no opportunities of interaction with other learners, the risk of monotony in the lessons and, the weight of responsibility that the teacher carries when teaching one-to-one. Another finding is that; building rapport with the student, varying the activities in the lessons and, performing a needs analysis were the most useful strategies to handle one-to-one classes."
