Abstract
“This investigation is concentrated on explaining and describing the main factors of low English-speaking performance that Target Language IV students face at Licenciatura en la Enseñanza del Inglés (LEI) in Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP). Before the examination of the factors of low English-speaking performance, it was mandatory to obtain relevant information about theories and then, further details were considered, like the communicative approach and speaking generalizations. To learn a language, there are four macro skills to accomplish the target, which are reading, writing, listening, and the most important one above the rest of them, speaking, which this research is about. Based on the theory about speaking difficulties in different contexts and perceptions, a structured interview was created. Also, the interview, personal conclusions, and analysis of the responses are explained. The results were related to the theory and matched successfully, such as the need to have more challenging activities in speaking class and practice outside school. In the end, the factors of low English-speaking performance are determined by responding to the research questions”.
