Abstract
"Listening plays a key role in the communication process and the acquisition of a second or
foreign language. Despite its value, students as well as teachers should recognize its importance.
This study attempts to examine how teachers and students at Upper Intermediate level perceive
listening in comparison with speaking, reading and writing and what difficulties students might
face during the training of this skill. Through a series of questionnaires their perceptions and
difficulties were explored. The study reveals the awareness of both participants, the use of
cognitive, metacognitive and socio-affective strategies to solve listening difficulties. Finally, the
results of this study provide relevant findings that may have some implications for students and
teachers regarding listening comprehension development."
