Abstract
“For a long time, teaching English as a foreign language was limited to teaching grammar in isolation; however, the communicative approach focused on the development of language skills, listening comprehension is the most complex and hardest of the four skills to master. It is also the basis for the development of other language skills and the natural way to receive input in language learning and acquisition. Moreover, with the introduction of technology, teachers have access to many tools such as subtitled videos which allow the students to get immersed in the culture to receive authentic input on how to use the language in a real and natural environment (Yasin et al., 2018). The present study followed a quantitative approach, and it is intended to develop listening comprehension skills through the use of subtitled videos. The sample was a group of eight young learners of level A2 flyers. They received a treatment of four weeks in listening instruction with pre-activities, while-activities, and post-activities. A pretest and posttest were administered, and a listening opinion survey. The obtained data from the pretest and posttest indicated an evident progress in students´ listening comprehension skills; moreover, the students´ opinions supported the results”.
