Abstract
"This dissertation analyzed if the application of webcomics was an effective reading technique to teach English common phrases vocabulary to EFL students. The webpage to read this type of comics and used in this research is Webtoon. The main objective was to gather the students' perceptions about reading Webtoon comics in EFL class, even if they were positive or negative. Moreover, if their vocabulary, based on common phrases in English, can improve by reading this genre. A descriptive qualitative research methodology was applied. The data was collected by a questionnaire especially designed for this study. In addition, subjects’ word knowledge was measured using a modified version of the VKS scale primarily done by Paribakht and Wesche (1993). This last move was thought to describe whether or not the students really improved their vocabulary, by pre and post testing them. The outcomes of this study were positive opinions, in general terms such as reading enjoyment, learning, motivation, easiness and usefulness. While in the vocabulary case; there is a slight but significant improvement in the total average".
