Abstract
"Today, Mexican students are not used to reading in their mother tongue and reading in a foreign language seems to be even more difficult. It is obvious that when students are asked to read in a foreign language, most of them do not have any motivation, interest nor reading strategies to comprehend what they read. Reading problems are a major concern of schools today. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2007) in USA, 33% of the nation’s fourth graders, and 26 % of the nation’s 8th graders attending public schools cannot read at a basic level. Also, of those 12th graders who do not drop out of high school, 27% cannot read at the basic level (NCES, 2005"
